'Hunger Games' Could Add Phillip Seymour Hoffman in a Major Role
by Andy NeuenschwanderCould "The Hunger Games" be adding an Oscar winner to the cast of "Catching Fire?"
It certainly looks that way: rumors are flying that Phillip Seymour Hoffman is in serious talks to join "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" in a major role. Hoffman is up for the role of Plutarch Heavensbee, a resident of the Capitol who is put in charge of the next year of the Games. The role continues on to the third book, Mockingjay, which will be adapted into two movies.
Hoffman has an impressive career, including roles in everything from "The Big Lebowski" to "Moneyball." Hoffman has earned three Oscar nominations for "Doubt," "Charlie Wilson's War" and "Capote," and ended up winning for "Capote." If cast, he would be the third Oscar-nominated actor in the cast.
If he signs on as Plutarch, Hoffman could end up being the most experienced actor in the mostly young cast of the "Hunger Games" series, which also includes Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson.
Interestingly, Hoffman just dropped his agency of 18 years this week, so any negotiations with "Hunger Games" are being conducted by Hoffman himself. We'll see how this plays out. Now, who will play Finnick?
